The Reality of Real Estate
Information for Buyers

by Steve Baker, Broker Associate March 2009

In my chosen field of work it’s built into my job description, and every Realtors’ ®, to sell our community.  Being successful in real estate is not defined by selling a house, but by connecting clients to neighborhoods and to a community that I believe in.  One they can, too.

Yes, I confess I may be a bit biased in my opinion of Greeley as I’ve spent most of the 40+ years of my life here.  As a REALTOR® in Greeley, it is not only my duty, but also my pleasure to promote our fine city.  I don’t want to make it seem as though Greeley has no faults---all cities have their positives and negatives.  Every city must recognize their negatives and make a constant effort to improve.  Greeley is a city that does continue to improve!

One of the observations I hear all of the time among people that are visiting is how friendly Greeley is. Visitors see drivers wave to each other, people saying hello at restaurants and coffee shops. Visitors compare Greeley to a larger city, with a small town feel.  Friendliness is one of the greatest assets that Greeley provides.  I think it’s great going to the grocery store and running into people you know and still have the opportunity to meet new people every day.

Greeley also offers many amenities most of us take for granted, don’t utilize, or just don’t talk about. A high number of parks are located throughout the city. Greeley boasts great recreation facilities, the Poudre River Trail, three public libraries, a good mix of local and national retailers, a wide variety of restaurants, and top rated medical care.  If we don’t have something - we’re just a short drive away from anything we desire because of our central location on the beautiful Front Range.  It is incredible to have so many amenities and great access to the Front Range, within a modest cost of living.

There is a myth that exists…that homes are not selling in Greeley.  Homes are selling!  Buyers are buying!  We have already sold 215 homes in Greeley/Evans since January 1, 2009!  Prices are at the lowest point we have seen in the last decade and buyers are taking advantage of this present reality!  If you are a seller, this may not feel like good news.  But, as a city we have to be happy that homes are being sold to good buyers invested in making Greeley their home.

I’ve espoused my love for this city, the city I grew up in…that I make my living in. We must all, as citizens of a great community, see and enjoy the positives, share the good news and help continue to make Greeley better.  Not just because this place is special to us, but also because others will see and feel the benefits of our community and the quality of life. The Greeley I know is generous, hard working, growing, and a community that will continue to rise above and be great…from the ground up!
